The therapists who reach your room after the evening

The grid above is the full list, not tonight's list. Twenty-three names are on it, and on any given evening a share of them have kept the late hours open. Nobody is put on a rota; each woman decides for herself which nights she works and until what hour.

Where each journey starts

There is no studio, so every arrival begins from the district where she lives. The roster divides almost evenly across four of them: six women in the Jordaan, six in Oud-Zuid, six in De Pijp and five in the old centre. Between those four points, somebody usually lives within easy reach of the squares where evenings in this city tend to end, which is one reason the arrival window holds at forty to sixty minutes for any central address.

Asking for a name from the dinner table

If you have already looked through the profiles, put the name in the first line of your message, with the address and the hour you expect to be back. If she is free, the reply confirms her. If she is not, the reply says who is free at that hour, and the choice of whether to take someone else, move the time or leave it is yours. Writing early in the evening, rather than from the pavement outside the bar, gives the name you wanted a far better chance.

Languages at the end of a long evening

English is on every profile. Beyond it, fourteen more languages are spoken across the list, from Dutch and German to Greek, Polish and Portuguese, and seven of the women hold two besides English. After a dinner spent talking in a second language, hearing your own at the door can be a relief, which is why every profile lists them.

What a profile shows

Her age, which on this list runs from twenty-two to thirty, her languages, the district she sets out from, the techniques she offers and her photographs, each one of her and published with her consent. The rates table on every profile is the same one: 180 euros for an hour with one guest, 270 for ninety minutes, 360 for two hours, 540 for three and 1,250 for the eight-hour overnight, with the couple and two-therapist columns alongside. Nothing is added for the hour of the night or for a crossing of the centre.
